Family ties tie a bow around many generations, ethnicities and distant continents. The majority are single and without children, at least without children living at home. A third of the families are of a background other than Danish. One in four are newly arrived, while more than one in ten are descendants of non-Western immigrants.
The education level is lower than among the population as a whole. A good third have passed primary school as their highest education level, while others have completed a vocational education. There are also some who are still in the process of educating themselves.
There are several Family ties who do not go to work, and the employment rate lies below the average. A third are on public support, and those who are in employment typically work for a low wage. The wealth is also low, if not negative. Over half are thus described as lower or working class, while the rest are in the middle class.
When you step inside Family ties, it is in social rental flats that are most often between 40 and 80 m². They are typically located in a multi-storey building, erected in the post-war years and up until the late 1970s.
Only a few have a car. On the other hand, they live relatively centrally. Three out of four you can find in the suburbs of the metropolises, by far the most in Copenhagen.
Everyday life goes its quiet and calm way, and more time is spent at home than out. It is the very close at hand that energy is spent on; community and cultural life are not pursued much. It would have to be if it is free.
Many live alone but still have strong bonds to the family - despite the fact that the family can be spread out across the country or live in distant lands and cultures. To keep the bonds closely tied, Family ties often invite friends and relatives to dinner. Here there is often lamb on the menu, perhaps from the local halal butcher, and pork is rarely served. It need be neither time-consuming nor expensive to make dinner; there are, after all, many good offers on the shelves at Aldi or Lidl. The money has to stretch, so one chooses to shop where one gets the most for it. Sometimes the saving is then spent on a meal from 7-Eleven. What the heck, it is quick and easy.
When Family ties need to connect with the outside world, they almost always take the bus - both when they need to get around daily, and when they go on a trip south. In everyday life, it is onto the bicycle. Exercise beyond that is only practised every week by the youngest among this type. Here they gladly choose football, running or fitness. E-sports and motorsport are also something that can interest them.
A bit of everything is read when relaxing at home with Family ties. Preferably the free weekly papers and otherwise weekly magazines such as Hjemmet and Familie Journal. They prefer to read B.T. online, while several of the older ones subscribe to Ekstra Bladet. The young like to read Euroman. At least at the hairdresser's.
The internet is used especially for education and practical information searching. Many of the older ones are afraid that the modern technology takes power away from people, and they are uneasy about online payment. Social media, however, most are comfortable with. The young are on the net most of the time, primarily to game or meet their friends online. It is, after all, also a good way to forge bonds.
In terms of values, most are Community-oriented with a lean towards both the more Modern and Traditional. The community is reflected, alongside the Family ties, also in the political attitudes; they think that too little is done for refugees and immigrants. The vote is predominantly for parties to the left of centre, but the Social Democrats are the most popular party among this type.
