Geodemography

The common denominators for Picket fences are a quite high education level and a sound economy. They are middle-aged and older; half are over 60 years old, while eight out of ten are over 50 years old. A little over one in three are couples, while the rest live as singles. Only under one in five have children living at home.

A good half are still on the labour market, while the rest are retired, undergoing further education or on other transfer income. The income level is high for those who are in work, and the rest live well off their pension and a relatively high wealth. The wealth is built of bricks at the good address, and to some degree of the shares and bonds that many have invested in and put their faith in.

If one lives in the Picket fences, one belongs in all likelihood to the upper class or at least the upper middle class.

By far the most live in older classic multi-family houses or flats from before 1940, and a few families live in single-family houses. But regardless of the housing form, there will quite certainly be beautiful parquet floors, either the originals or newly laid after a renovation. Picket fences often have a view over the sea, the harbour, the square, the fjord or the city.

Although the home address is typically at one of the most coveted addresses in and around the country's largest cities, some also have a permanent summer residence. In fact, one in eight has a holiday home, which they probably get to by car, as two thirds in the Picket fences have a car and some have two or more.

One in eight also has a business at home, and as always, consultancies and financial companies weigh heavily. Some are, however, also therapists or artists.

The Gallup compas

The model on the right shows where the Conzoom type is positioned in relation to the Gallup Compass. The Gallup Compass is a segmentation tool that, based on value‑ and attitude‑based questions, provides nuanced insight into consumer behavior, values, and lifestyle. You can read more about this in the section below.

Behaviour, lifestyle and attitudes

The wealth has not come by itself. Picket fences have prioritised the career highly, and for many it has required an effort of many hours a week beyond normal working hours. Leisure time, or retirement, is therefore treasured and enjoyed with self-indulgence, wellness and exercise by bicycle or a walk in nature.

Health is not only movement. Diet, health and well-being unite in a higher whole, and shopping is done with care - not because one cannot afford it, but because one wants to find the right product at the right price. One gladly pays extra for luxury goods and organic and shops regularly in speciality shops. The ordinary grocery shopping is done at Irma, føtex or MENY.

When you talk with this type, you will discover that they are very well-informed about the society they live in. They read at least one of the major dailies, and non-fiction and handbooks often lie ready for reference and immersion. Gastro, Børsen, the magazine Pleasure and Dagens Medicin lie side by side with Samvirke and Ud & Se. Almost one in four always buys Hus Forbi when they meet a homeless person.

Besides the daily newspaper on subscription, they are also regular payers to several NGOs and/or nature protection or animal welfare organisations. Picket fences's hearts beat, on the whole, for much and many, and they think that far too little is done for refugees, the elderly and the vulnerable. Most are, moreover, also members of Ældre Sagen.

P1 perhaps hums in the background from the older but fine B&O system. They enjoy listening to the radio, just as they are fond of good design and quality products. The TV is also switched on daily. They watch virtually all channels, but fixed on the programme are DR and TV 2, DR2 and TV 2 Charlie.

Digitalisation has made many things easier seen from Picket fences's point of view, and the internet is used confidently and frequently from both computer and tablet. Here they follow their investments, click past social media and find information about cultural offerings, such as museum visits, theatre trips and art exhibitions.

Picket fences travel a lot and are far more frequently up in the air than the rest of the population. The trips go to distant destinations; it is not uncommon that they take longer holidays to South America, Africa or Australia.

In terms of values, they are clearly Traditional-community-oriented. They treasure the welfare state and the support it provides to everyone in society. Why ever change that? But like the other F types, they do think the state could spend more money on art and culture.

At the most recent election, votes were cast very broadly from Picket fences. One in four is a Social Democrat, but otherwise the votes are distributed across the Social Liberals (Radikale) and the Liberal Party (Venstre). However, the Conservatives and the Red-Green Alliance (Enhedslisten) experienced increasing support from Picket fences at the last election, and it appears set to rise even more at the next.
